The University of Bern offers also information and support for newly arrived "dual career couples". A dual career couple is one in which one partner is currently in employment negotiations with the University of Bern or is already a permanent employee of the university on at least a two-year contract, and the other partner first moved to Bern during the year in which the application is made.
Here grants are available for moving, home office and childcare expenses, as seed money to develop projects or grant applications and for costs associated with materials, equipment, intellectual property rights and the like. The pilot project also funds temporary positions in research and higher education.

AcademiaNet brings excellent women researchers to the fore
AcademiaNet is an Internet portal containing the profiles of outstanding women researchers in German-speaking countries. Created by the Robert Bosch Foundation and the science magazine "Spektrum der Wissenschaft" in 2010, the database makes it easier to find qualified female scientists to fill management positions and serve as members of scientific bodies. The SNSF joined up as a partner organisation in 2011. This year, it is nominating scientists for the first time.
