The aim of my project is to establish and apply a GC/MS based method to quantify endocannabinoids and related lipid mediators in inflammatory processes (arachidonic acid and prostaglandins) in different tissues and cell culture. Quantification is essential to reach a deeper level of understanding in the endocannabinoid system. Modern GC-MS analytics allows us to study the dynamics of lipid networks in cell cultures, which may open up new perspectives in the understanding of cellular processes as for example the release and reuptake of anandamide and related lipids into cells.
